the tui looks so sublime and proper, perched erect on the branches of the kowhai. at least that’s how he looked until he tongued the sweet, slightly fermented flowers of the kowhai. this is the ‘before’ shot of what was to come.

this piece is based on botticelli’s ‘birth of venus’. it is dedicated to my beautiful wife, whom is my goddess of love. she has pulled me from the dark and showed me limitless love and devotion. i owe what and who i am to her. she is my life.

made from 3mm thick alloy and custom coloured to order, these are contemporary maori at its best. the rack under one leg accommodates ones favourite books and mags. functional koru handles have been cut in sides to allow for easy shifting when cleaning. these have an industrial, high gloss powder coat applied for durability.

this must be one of the best christmas presents you could get! a custom designed vibiemme super. air new zealand requested two of these to be given away to special staff as a christmas present. the original whanaungatanga artwork was tweeked to fit.

this piece is a celebration of working together through adversity and hardship, to build a positive future. strenthening and fostering of new relationships, loyalty and supporting one another throughout the year. it represents our beautiful country, its flowing landscape and bright, determined outlook. the gannet is a kaitiaki, protecting and guiding us towards the future. the southern cross is represented, showing journeys travelled. the rivers flow through our land like blood in your veins, the expression of relationships, the complexity of these, the ups and downs. working as a team to meet a common goal creates success. whanaungatanga.

this piece was done as a commission for the ‘living & learning centre’ in henderson, west auckland. it represents the cultures, lifestyle and spirit of the area and also the people that inhabit it . the waitakeres is a food and water source for tamaki makaurau. it collects our drinking water, grows fruit crops and protects and nurtures our native flora and fauna. the shapes within represent the volcanic terrain on which we live. the kokako is a kaitiaki (guardian), watching over the tamariki, helping forge a brighter future for them as it has been given by the ‘arch in the park’ project. looking down from the waitakere ranges towards rangitoto, he feels proud and privileged to be part of it all.
