the rug, kokako, is inspired by the new zealand wattlebird, an ancient family of birds which includes the north and south Island saddleback and the now extinct huia. a dark bluish-grey bird with a long tail and short wings, it has a pair of brightly coloured, fleshy wattles extending from either side of its gape to meet below the neck.

the rug is a visual feast to hang on the wall as artwork, or have a centre stage in a living area. the design shows the capability of the rug makers, who through detail in technique and clever use of yarn type make the rug come alive. made by cronz.
